Accrediting Agencies and Quality Assurance: Improving Education in China

Quality assurance in the field of education in China is carried out by the Chinese Ministry of Education and several accrediting agencies of national level regulate the standards of education. They ensures that Chinese education is at par with global standards. International bodies are also involved in the accreditation process of some Chinese educational institutions and organisations.

Accrediting agencies in China work towards regulation of education

Accreditation agencies in China include the Heilongjiang Educational Assessment Network and the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).HKCAAVQ conducts accreditation activities for higher education and vocational education institutes. Jiangsu Educational Assessment Network also accredits education in the country. Professor of Educational Assessment Accreditation is also responsible for the accreditation process of many educational institutes in China.

The Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) is the apex and only national agency to evaluate academic qualifications of foreign applicants for entrance into Chinese universities. CSCSE is jointly approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council  as well as the Chinese Ministry of Education to assess degree certificates granted to Chinese as well as non-Chinese nationals from foreign higher education institutions when they apply for entry into universities and colleges in China.

Quality Assurance for educational institutes in China aims at evaluating the standards of education

Quality assurance falls under the authority of the Ministry of Education which oversees the state of basic education, tertiary education and vocational education. Certification of teachers as well as development of curriculum is the responsibility of the Ministry. Located at Beijing, this organization is responsible for verification of degrees, diplomas and other certificates conferred by the educational institutions in China. The CDGDC verifies school grade transcripts, degrees, and diplomas conferred by higher education institutions and research institutes.

CDGDC is also authorized by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Chinese Ministry of Education to assess and appraise the state of postgraduate programs. Educational inspection is carried out regularly in Chinese educational institutions and schools to assess educational activities and work carried out at schools. The State Education Inspectorate, comprising of 60 inspectors selected by the State Education Commission, a deputy chief inspector and a chief inspector, conducts the national educational inspection.
